What is Lean Six Sigma?

The purpose of Lean Six Sigma is to organize the company and its processes, so that the company is able to meet or surpass customer expectations most effectively and at least cost. In short, good management of the business.

 

Three basic methods in the management and improvement philosophy

  1. DMAIC: improvement of existing processes
  2. Design for Six Sigma: development & re-design of products, services and processes
  3. Business Process Management

 

1) DMAIC

Project Model for the improvement of products, services and processes

DMAIC is the backbone of the Six Sigma methodology and constitutes the original classic part of Six Sigma. DMAIC is the improvement project model that the vast majority of Six Sigma projects are built on. The method is used to improve existing processes or products.

DMAIC is an acronym for the 5 phases in the improvement model.

Define – What’s the problem?

Measure – How big is the problem?

Analyze – What causes the problem?

Improve – What can solve the problem?

Control – Have we actually solved the problem?

2) Design for Six Sigma

Method for innovative development and re-design of products, services and processes

The world is constantly changing, and customer needs and values evolve. Also, the technological development’s ability to support customer needs and values in new and more effective ways. Design for Six Sigma supports development and help you meet or exceed customer expectations.

3) Business Process Management

Effective management of business processes

Today most companies are managed functionally. This despite the fact that the majority of deliveries to customers is done with processes that run across functional areas. Business Process Management (BPM) is about managing and controlling processes, because it is the process – the sum of functions that delivers the company’s products and services to its customers.

With Business Process Management the company achieves transparency in the performance of the process from start to finish. Through a KPI structure the management is able to be proactive instead of reactive. Management can act, even before it can be seen in the results that something has failed or is about to fail.

What is the company’s critical processes, which processes performs adequately – and which processes needs attention.
